A Trademark application goes through many stages, where examination by Registry if one of the crucial stages. An officer scrutinizes the trademark application to check for errors and to verify the correctness of the application so that it complies to the Trademarks Act and its Rules.

Upon scrutiny, an examination report is issued highlighting the errors, deficiencies or conflicts in the application. In case there is a conflict in the application, the scrutinizing officer raises an objection asking the applicant to submit a reply as to why the trademark application should be passed. Failure to reply may cause rejection of the entire application.
