What is Copper Import Monitoring System (NFMIMS)?
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade introduced Copper Import Monitoring System (NFMIMS) with the purpose of recording precise information related to the import of Copper under Chapter 74 of ITC (HS), 2017, Schedule-1 (i.e. around 46 tariff lines). As per the DGFT Notification No. 61/2015−2020, Dated 31st March, 2021, import policy of these products are now changed from ‘Free’ to ‘Free subject to compulsory registration under the Non-Ferrous Metals Import Monitoring System (NFMIMS).
Copper Import Monitoring System came into effect from 31st March 2021 and the online registration facility came into effect from 5th April 2021. The NFMIMS data will give details of the importers and products registered for imports, total quantity being imported and even import quantity of those grades that are available domestically. The data, will thus help the domestic industry to plan their strategies for substituting imports.
Objective of Copper Import Monitoring System (NMFIMS)
NFMIMS not only helps in collection of the data regarding import of Copper but also helps in analysis of the data thereby streamlining the process of policy making. In addition, it helps in getting real-time information that helps monitoring the imports into the country.

- In case of any changes in the company organizational structure or hierarchy, applicant’s mobile/email id can be changed/updated accordingly in the DGFT IEC database through the online IEC modification system
- Importers who are found to furnish incorrect data or fail to register their information/data on notified items in advance on the online NFMIMS module will attract punitive action including action under the Foreign Trade (D&R) Act, 1992

Non-Ferrous Metal Impot Monitoring System (NFMIMS) is an online platform launched by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. The NFMIMS will be effective from 05.04.2021, i.e., Bill of Entry filed on or after 12.04.2021 for items as listed shall be governed by NFMIMS.
NFMIMS portal became effective from 5th April, 2021.
For each Shipment or Custom Entry a NFMIMS license is necessary.
The importer can apply for registration not earlier than 60th day before the expected date of arrival of import consignment. The registration can be made on the same day of arrival of import also.
No, a valid IEC is required for NFMIMS registration.
Yes, all the Copper which is imported (be it just import or Re-import) need a new and valid license under NFMIMS.

You can add only One Seller and One Manufacturer only under one license application for NFMIMS.
Any business importing Copper covered under the licensing program is required to create a license for concerned imports. Importers, importing agents, or brokers, may apply for this license.
Yes, multiple products can be imported and included in one license, provided that the importer, exporter, manufacturer, country of origin and port of exportation is the same.
A view section has been made available for the applicants where they can enter their previous registration number as well as the IEC and look at the previous license details.
Yes, foreign filers can apply for a license, if assuming they have a valid Indian IEC (Importer Exporter Code) number.
Licenses that are yet to be submitted can be amended.
There is no renewal of the License, as new Licenses are issued with every incoming Import.
Validity of the license is 75 days from the date of issuance.
Licenses that are yet to be submitted can be cancelled by deleting the draft crated. In case the application has been submitted, cancellations cannot be made.
Currently, there is no such provision for a refund or cancellation.
A registration fee of INR 500/- is directed.
For the Copper importers who are failing to register under NFMIMS in advance or found to furnish wrong data in the online system, legal action would be taken against such importers including the action under FTDR Act, 1992.
