What is Annual Compliance for EPR?
EPR, or Extended Producer Responsibility, is a policy that is designed to promote environmentally sustainable practices by shifting the responsibility for managing Plastic Waste / E-Waste / Battery Waste from consumers and local governments to the producers manufacturers, importers of those products. EPR compliance refers to the requirement placed on these producers and manufacturers to meet certain environmental and waste management obligations as part of EPR programs.
As per the EPR Guidelines, all the EPR Registered entities have to submit annual returns of a particular financial year by the next financial year.

How to submit EPR Annual Returns for EPR Compliance?
The Central Pollution Control Board has established an online portal to submit the annual returns from 31st March 2022. The EPR Registered entities should use this portal to submit the details as discussed in our video, meet the EPR Target, pay the required processing fees and submit the annual returns.

Fulfilling the EPR Target
Fulfilling EPR Target is one of the major and mandatory things to be performed by all the registered entities. The EPR Target can be fulfilled in two ways:
- Recycling the waste equivalent to the target through an EPR Registered Recycler who will generate the requisite certificate. This certificate can be used to meet the target and submit the annual returns
- Buying the certificates or credit points equivalent to the target from any other entity to meet the target and thereby submit annual returns.
Updating Procurement and Sales Data:
All the plastic packaging material purchased and sold in that financial year has to be updated including the following details:
- Type of Plastic Packaging
- Quantity of Plastic Packaging
- % Recycled content in the plastic packaging
- Buyer or Seller details and if the seller is EPR Registered so that responsibility or the target can be passed on.
Based on this data, EPR Target for the next year is generated that as to be accepted before filing the annual returns.
