Govt. Eases Leather Export Rules

In a recent move to boost leather exports, the Central Government has revoked export conditions related to certain leather products. This includes:
• Removal of port restrictions for exporting Finished Leather, Wet Blue Leather, and EI Tanned Leather.
• No more mandatory testing and certification by the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) for Finished Leather, Wet Blue Leather, Crust Leather, and EI Tanned Leather.
This step, notified under the Foreign Trade Policy 2023, is expected to ease processes for exporters and promote growth in the leather sector.
Effect of the Notification: The notification removes, with immediate effect, port restrictions on the export of Finished Leather, Wet Blue Leather, and El Tanned Leather, and the requirement of drawl of samples for testing, testing and certification by the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) for export of Finished Leather, Wet Blue Leather, Crust Leather, and EI Tanned Leather.
